Roots in Motion: Young Creators Take Centre Stage at the St Patrick’s Festival Parade
Every March, the streets of Dublin transform into a river of colour, music, and celebration during the spectacular St Patrick’s Festival. From March 14-17, 2026, the city will once again burst into life with events, gigs, community gatherings, and unforgettable moments across the capital.
But this year, something especially powerful is growing beneath the surface.
A Theme That Starts with Roots
The 2026 festival theme, “Roots,” celebrates the people, places and stories that form the living roots of Ireland. It is about where we come from, what grounds us, and the creativity that grows when communities come together.
And nowhere is that spirit more alive than in the incredible work created by young people across Dublin.
Months of Creativity in Cabra and SWICN
For months, young artists and makers from youth projects in Cabra and SWICN have been designing, building, and imagining something magical.
Their creations will take center stage during the biggest moment of the festival the St Patrick’s Festival Parade, where over half a million spectators are expected to line the streets of Dublin.
Two breathtaking floats will make their debut:
🦢 The Golden Swan of Cabra
A shimmering symbol of creativity and transformation, crafted feather by feather by young people whose ideas have taken flight.
🧚 The Green Woman of St. Audeon’s
Inspired by nature, folklore, and the living roots of Ireland, she represents growth, community, and connection to place.
But the story does not stop there.
Young people from youth services across the city will also bring the parade to life through music, movement, and imagination.
🥁 Percussionists from CLAY Youth Project, Sphere 17 (Donnycarney) and Ballybough have been working with Music Generation facilitators to create a powerful rhythm that will echo through the streets.
💃 Movement and dance are led by young performers from Core Youth Service and The Solas Liberate Project.
🍟🐟And Ballybough’s creativity continues with giant parade props celebrating some favourite “roots” foods including a playful giant fish and chips creation.
Together, these young creators are proving something powerful: When young people are given space to imagine, create and collaborate, extraordinary things can happen.
A Parade Powered by Community
Alongside these youth-led creations, the parade will feature a vibrant mix of community groups, marching bands, performers, and spectacular floats, all celebrating the diverse cultures and communities that shape modern Ireland.
From music and movement to art and storytelling, the parade is a reminder that culture is not just something we watch it is something we build together.
Come Celebrate with Us
From March 14 - 17, Dublin becomes a stage where tradition meets imagination.
And this year, young creators are bringing their roots, their stories, and their creativity right to the heart of the city.
So, find your spot on the street, listen for the drums, and watch the magic unfold.
Because the roots of Ireland are not just in the past.
They are growing right here, right now.
